Club News – June, 2023

June 11, 2023.

Our 2022-2023 ( Sept.-May)  Season was fun & successful. A few new members and regular visitors from other clubs were much appreciated!

Gary Winter is our regular caller, a fun and skilled caller with a large music collection; we are happy to have retained Gary’s services for another season.

In late May, we hosted a well-attended AGM, with a few eager members accepting new roles on the Executive. We welcome new Club President Tom Gray, Vice President Dominique Vrolyk, Secretary Cheryl Mann, Treasurer Jeanette Morrison. Ron McIntosh will continue as Past President. The club wishes to thank previous Board members for their enthusiasm and hard work!

At that meeting, we decided to resume our Homesteader Night, which had been suspended for three years. It will be held on Wednesday, Nov 22. We also decided to increase our admission fee to $8/person, in line with most local clubs.

Happy Homesteaders members always enjoy performing. We dance in Seniors’ Lodges, where we are treated to smiles & comments afterwards. Most recently (June 2-3 2023), we danced twice at the Leduc Black Gold Rodeo TradeFair to the playing of the Wild Rose Old Tyme Fiddlers as well as to records and the calling of Gary Winter and Murray Few … A good crowd, and a popular booth also, where CDCDA, WROTFA, and club promotional material was handed out until we ran out…!

This spring, our club proudly hosted our Annual STARS Fundraising Dance, collecting over $3,000 for a cause that several of our members have a connection to!

Our members enjoy Square Dancing,  & Choreographed Ballroom Dancing. Recently, nine of our members attended a big Summer Dance in Radium BC:  Eleven or Twelve squares (wow!) enjoyed the fast and fun pace of caller Gordon Ruedig, of Powell River BC and our own Gary Winter of Sherwood Park AB.

Thanks to our upcoming Open House of September 13 and our Wednesday night dances held at the lovely Telford House by the lake, we hope to attract more new dancers. Dancers from other clubs are always welcome!
