Leduc Square Dancers Best STARS Fundraiser Ever!
Leduc, Alberta – March 27, 2018 – Woot! What a great night!
The Leduc Square Dance Club held its fourteenth annual STARS Benefit Dance at 7:00 pm on March 26 at Telford House (4907-46 St, Leduc, AB T9E 5V9).
We had three squares at our STARS Benefit Dance, with guests from Leduc, Blackfalds, Edmonton, Sandholm, and South Africa. The event raised over $2000 for the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS)– our highest total ever. Within the past three years, we have raised more than $5000 for the air ambulance service.
A big THANK YOU to Bill and Joyce Adair, who handled the donations table. Thanks to Dave Kurney, who called for the event.
One highlight was the arrival of a cameraman from CTV Edmonton. His footage was shown on the 11:30 news that night.
The event was also written up in the Leduc Rep and possibly played on 93.1FM The One.
There’s nothing “square” about modern square dancing!
Unlike old-time square dance–where the calls always followed the same pattern and dancers would memorize them–modern square dance is flexible and ever-changing.
The Leduc Happy Homesteaders Square Dance Club was formed in 1980 in New Sarepta. In addition to regular weekly dances for members, the club entertains each Christmas at various seniors centres. The group recently received a grant from the City of Leduc to help promote its activities.
